In waiting for a new PCM because that my newer everyday I had to usage my "00 S10 as a daily again. Well as my week was currently going terrible the ole S10 lunched a head gasket. Therefore I have a question.. I am putting the truck back together this coming weekend. Torque for the head bolts speak to for a final tweak that 90 degrees with a torque angle meter.Can ns safely and accurately mark the bolt head v a line and tighten till the is 90 levels from its beginning point ~ the early torquing is done? just places neighborhood seem to have cheapo torque edge meters. If ns don"t need to I"d fairly not to buy junk if the note it and turn the 90 is safe.
90 levels is easy- just torque castle to everything the spec is, then usage a breaker bar to put about another 90 degrees into it.. It"s not choose it"s gonna to explode if you get one at 86 degrees and the next one in ~ 92 degrees..

Been a while due to the fact that I did one of these, however I seem come remember there was an problem with the dowels that find the head. As I remember, you need to turn them therefore the break-up in the dowel (hollow, head bolt go thru it) is away from the water jacket. As much as the 90 degrees, either noting or 1/4 revolve with a breaker bar is fine, excellent plenty this way..Good luck, Jim

As I remember, you have to turn them so the split in the dowel (hollow, head bolt go thru it) is far from the water jacket. As much as the 90 degrees, either noting or 1/4 revolve with a breaker bar is fine, done plenty this way..Good luck, Jim
Thanks because that the tip on the dowel.. I will keep an eye ~ above them! because that now due to the fact that I to be in a pinch ns am going to mark it and go second 90... Having two chauffeurs down sucks. Weekend is supposed to be in the mid 50"s and for NY this time of year and being stuck doing this in my driveway I require to move on it.Thanks guys!

The real solution is to watch if there"s a non-Torque-to-Yield (TTY) set of head bolts obtainable for the application.TTY sucks. Offered a choice, I"d install ARP non-TTY if available. I am perpetually reminded of the GM 2.5L "Iron Duke"; possibly one of the worst engines GM has supplied in the last fifty years. The TTY head bolts spontaneously snapped, and also then the head gasket failed.My Lumina 3.4 Twin double Cam (DOHC) engine provides torque-angle an approach on the head bolts.
